In the beginning…

Purdookah.com was started in January of 2010 because of a lack of quality information and way too many myths regarding hookah smoking.  There were too many sites that that offered nothing beyond reviews of hookah tobacco, too many sites that had sat dormant for months on end, too many sites that didn’t have the information people wanted, and too many sites that just had it wrong.

So, when three students from Purdue (the authors and staff of this site) set out to change that by diving into research, writing honest product reviews, and connecting with other prominent hookah bloggers (IHeartHookah and Zookah), Purdookah.com was born.

Why “Purdookah?”

We were inspired by the writers at Zookah.  They’re located at the University of Amherst, aka. “The Zoo,” and because we’re from the Purdue University area, we followed suit.  ”Purdookah” is simply a play on words along the exact same line.  There is a growing hookah community in the Purdue area, with two notable hookah lounges and a handful of suppliers.  We also use the “double-o” because we really enjoy not being sued!

What Am I Going To Find Here?

We started this site because of poor and missing information, and we hope to change that by providing accurate, quality information.  We will of course offer the usual product reviews for shisha, hookahs, and coals, video tutorials, tips, tricks, and Q&A.  We plan to go beyond all this though, by diving into the data regarding hookah smoking, its health effects, legislation, and culture.

We don’t aim to create the next big hookah community.  We don’t aim to push anyone out of business.  We do aim to put on our MythBuster hats and really shed light on everything that the public needs to know.  And we’re going to have a heck of a good time doing it.

How Can I Stay Up To Date?

We have a YouTube profile which we’ll use to host our videos, and allow people to follow any new material we post.  We also have a Facebook page and Twitter profile which anyone is welcome to follow.  These two locations will announce anything new that we add to the site, because we know checking in is just one more thing you have to remember.  So subscribe, favorite, fan, and follow to your heart’s content!
